Ayurveda

The Ayurvedic (a Sanskrit word meaning ‘life knowledge’) school of India.

This school can trace its roots to pre-history and the earliest written records, and before than learning was passed from mentor to apprentice by oral tradition. Most people living on the Indian sub-continent regularly use some form of Ayurvedic medicine, and also ethnic minority Indians in other countries. There has been some concern about quality control of Ayurvedic preparations, and contamination with lead and heavy metals. This is perhaps an issue common to all food, and exports from developing countries. Quality control measures need to be in place. Exercise caution (buyer beware) and always buy from a reputable supplier.
