Therefore the physician must start from nature, with an open mind.”
Paracelsus (15th Century, medieval alchemist and physician)
The Veteran’s project is a free service to NZ military Veterans, being run as a research project by Otago University and Acupuncture NZ, and participating acupuncturists. Christchurch Osteopathy Acupuncture is also participating in the project, and offering this service.
For Veterans, this uses Acupuncture (ear and body points) to treat physical pain anywhere in the body. Acupuncture can also help treat stress and many psychological issues. These may include anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, and possible overuse of alcohol or substances.
Treatment can be for physical pain and/or psychological stress or trauma (e.g. anxiety, post-traumatic stress injury, poor sleep, etc). When coming to Christchurch Osteopathy Acupuncture for physical pain, you may also benefit from an Osteopathic and musculoskeletal assessment - as I am a registered Osteopath, in additional to being an Acupuncturist. When coming for a number of free acupuncture treatments under the Veteran's project, I can also, at least give you an Osteopathic and musculoskeletal assessment, in addition to Acupuncture treatment.
But you need to register for the Veteran's Project with your GP first, to access this service.
Research shows veterans can develop chronic diseases such as sleep apnoea, heart disease, obesity - and generally suffer from poorer physical and mental health than non-veterans.
The Veteran's project is for NZ Armed Forces veterans - to apply for this - please contact your GP.
Currently, Acupuncture is being used in Ukraine for rehabilitation of war veterans there. For more on this please see: Use of Acupuncture in Rehabilitation of Ukraine War Veterans
To access this service, you will need to initially contact your GP, who can then refer you to the nearest participating acupuncturist (and also to the study web-site for registration as a potential participant). Advice can also be sought from the New Zealand Veterans Affairs or the RSA District Support Managers.
After you have seen your GP to initiate this - you can then to book for treatment here – at Christchurch Osteopathy Acupuncture - for a number of free treatments.
An alternative to the Otago University Veteran’s Project, would be to approach your Returned Services Association (RSA). They may be able to fund your osteopathy and/or acupuncture treatment - and help with any health issues you may have.
After having seen your GP, and signed up for the Otago University Veteran’s Project, you can then book online by clicking here: BOOK NOW
and then select Veteran's project (free). This BOOK NOW button is also on the other web-pages. You can still text / phone 021 043 6282 if you need to.
